“TO OVERCOME THE CHALLENGES AND ENHANCE THEPRODUCTIVITY AN TIME& COST OVERRUN MANAGEMENT INROAD CONSTRUCTION-CASESTUDY

Abstract

Abstract: The Construction Industry like any other heavy industries uses huge amount of resources off and on the field in theform of materials, plants & equipment’s and human resources along with money, time and space. In Road projects, the totalproject corridor is usually divided into sections and further to sub-sections for the ease of working and allocation. Theresources are generally allocated to the working teams / groups on the basis of their productivity level and total volume ofwork allotted to the respective teams. In Road projects, the same resource is often used for different activities and theproductivity of that resource being different for different activities, it becomes inevitable to know the correct norms for correctestimation, planning and monitoring. Apart from project aspects, this study is necessary from global business point of viewalso.Annually a huge amount of new roads are overlaid on existing road pavement in which a layer of existing bitumen pavementis removed for road development purposes. Utilization of such waste as Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement to replace naturalaggregates partially could be helpful both for environmental and economic aspects in the construction industry. As road projects are much essential part of city, it needs to be completed at earliest for public benefits. Almost all Roadprojects in India are facing cost & time. Cost & time is generally considered as the most common, complex and risky problemencountered in construction projects. Most construction projects in developing countries are characterized by overruns intime. All projects, regardless of size, complexity are burdened by deadlines and uncertainty. Cost & time s occur in everyconstruction project and the magnitude of these cost & time s varies considerably from project to project. This researchcarries out a detailed review of the previous studies of the time and cost overrun factors.Keywords- Cost & time, Cost, Time, budget, Management, Planning, Quality, Schedule
