HEARTRATE MONITORING USING MOBILE CAMERA


Abstract

Abstract:Self monitoring of vital parameters is very important for timelydetection of health diseases.  The bloodpressure,  heart rate and its changes aremost important parameters in this case. Heart Failure monitoring program allowsearly detection of patient condition as well as provide adjustments which mightprevent hospital readmissions and help improve quality of life.  Telemonitoring is a tool having provenresults which demonstrate clinical benefits in reducing mortality andhospitalization. Almost all of the recent smartphones are equipped with highresolution cameras and LEDs Smartphone’s video cameras become more powerful andalso the devices itself is used by many people. It allows utilizing them for many every-day tasks.  One of such suitable application of thewidely used smartphones is monitoring the health. Home telemonitoring is thebest tool for HF management encompassing use of communication technologies tomonitor various physiological parameters. In this paper we propose an approach to detect the photoplethysmographsignal from the fingertip by using a phone’s camera and built-in LED.  The proposed solution allows detecting thecorrect heart rate.
