VALIDATION ANDPERFORMANCE OF PIN FINS USING CFD

Abstract

Abstract- Fins(Extended surfaces) are mainly use to increases the heat transfer rate, thereare different types of fins such as cylindrical, rectangular, square, annularand tapered fins. Mostly in many cases cylindrical pin fins are used asextended surface, the proposed model of pin fins equipped with rectangularenclosure having cross section 250100 and length is 1020mm.For CFD simulation thefollowing data of experimental analysis is used such as a Reynolds numberranges from 13,500 to 42000, clearance ration (C/H) = 0, inter fin spacingratio =3.417,No. of fins are 11 for staggered arrangement. Then CFD results for singleelliptical perforated pin fins are obtained and validated with experimentalresults. The proposed model is analyzed using CFD for two circular perforationand the results shows that the use of the two circular perforation leads toheat transfer enhancement than the solid and single elliptical perforatedcylindrical fins. This benefits arise due to not only the increased surface areabut also heat transfer enhancement near perforations through the formation oflocalized air jets.
