Abstract

Abstract: Mahatma GandhiNational Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme/Act(MGNREGA) seeks to provide atleast 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to at leastone member of every rural household whose adult members volunteer to dounskilled manual work and generate assets for the community that could beuseful for their daily occupational activities and to cater to their economicneeds. The study would examine the trend in employment generated and status ofasset created for all the states and union territories of India for the year2015 - 2018 . Findings showed the inconsistency in the data over the yearswhich depicted some kind of inefficiencies from the implementation side thatprevented from catering to the objectives under the Act in terms of itsemployment provision and asset generated and that these limitations neededimmediate solution.
