MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF CONNECTING ROD USING VARIOUS MATERIALS WITH FEM

Abstract

Abstract: The connecting rod is a major link insideof combustion engine. It connects the piston] to the crankshaft and isresponsible for transferring power from the piston to the crankshaft. It has towork on high r.p.m. because of which it has to bear severe stresses which makeits design vital for internal combustion engine. In this paper, a connectingrod for two wheeler is designed by analytical method.  On the basis of that design a physical modelis created in CATIA V5. Structural system of connecting rod has been analysedusing FEA.   With the use of FEA variousstresses are calculated for a particular loading conditions using FEA softwareANSYS WORKBENCH 14.5.  The same work iscarried out for different materials (forged steel and Al-360). The obtainedresults  (Stresses, shear stress, fatiguelife based on results concluded the suitable material for connecting are compared on the basis of variousperformances with considerable , and we prepared the prototype component in 3dprinting.
