Abstract:In the last twodecades, economic development has resulted in huge amount of environmentalpollution and waste generation. One of the main issue in the process ofprotection of environment is the management of solid waste which comprises reasonablepreparation of collection, transportation, dispensation and disposition ofsolid waste materials- be it hazardous or non- hazardous. Biomedical waste isone such concerning solid waste material. This paper highlights the series ofrisk and concerns to human health and nature, and aims at concluding asystemic, holistic and innovative approach to biomedical waste management. Oneof the approaches is plasma pyrolysis which not only wards off health risks butalso eliminates environmental pollution. An attempt has also being made inreviewing the current biomedical waste management practice in various hospitalsin India. The disposal of biomedical wasteare inspected in terms of the rules and regulations, methods ofsegregation, packaging, labeling and treatment techniques.
